Built in 1875, by Sir Thomas Riddell adjacent to his house, Horsley Hall, which became the Sunart Hotel - burnt down in 199_.   By the 1960's the church was falling into disuse/disrepair and the Church of Scotland generously agreed to the holding of Communion services in the Parish Church.  St Mary's was eventually sold in 1972 at which time the Strontian congregation joined with that from St Finan's at Lochmoidart.
